Hey I’m Laura. I’m a sport scientist working in 1st team Premier League football. I’m a geek. I like numbers. I care a lot. I’m passionate about making a difference to sports performance. This blog is my brain, my experiences, my advice, my story.
Have YOU got what it takes to work in elite sport? Are you sure? I was. I still am. But my love for my job has been tested, a lot. People are not lying when they tell you it’s a brutal environment. Times it by ten. But is it rewarding? Yes. Is it challenging? Yes. Is it boring? Never. I have had a rollercoaster of experiences and insights you might find interesting, shocking and hopefully motivating. Please read my stuff 😁
Do you know everything there is to know about sport science? Me neither. I hope I never do. But I know some bits, I’ll share it. New ideas, my research, things that have worked, things that haven’t. Challenge me, ask questions, disagree or just read. I’d like to break down some barriers and share some knowledge. Open things up a bit. 🤓
Are you female working in a male sport or wanting to? Probably not, but if you are, me too. Its tough, it was always going to be. It’s great though too, right? Or why would we do it? Oh my god do I have some stories!! I also have some tips and some questions, if you like. I’ve met some pretty incredible women on the way and some awesome people (male and female) that have kept me going when I’ve wanted to run for the hills. If I can provide half the inspiration they have, I’ll be buzzing 🙋♀️
It’s been a pretty eventful journey this far, so please keep reading my blog ☺️

I will break down some barriers and share ideas; not like people in conferences say they will, then talk for an hour and say nothing. Actually share ideas, discuss methods, admit obstacles and try to learn. I’m also going to divulge the realities of the job and the experiences I’ve had. From doing a PhD whilst working full time, to travelling the world whilst working 6 day weeks, to handling the banter, the “banter” and the politics. Maybe I can make the tiniest bit of difference to the future. So if you want advice, sport science chat or an insight into the football world through my eyes, read on.
